To inspire the church community and all society to embrace and empower persons with disabilities to realize their full potential to know, love and serve the Lord, as well as achieve full membership and belonging in our faith community.
We believe that the fullness of Christ’s vision implies the full social and emotional inclusion of all people. Through advocacy, education and deeds we aspire to lead all to embrace and empower persons with disabilities as a pillar of our discipleship.
We are the voice of the voiceless and aspire to expand their inclusion across all aspects of Parish life in every Parish in the Archdiocse of Detroit.
Our focus is to offer tools, resources and programs to help lead the most vulnerable to Jesus.
We started as an advisory group in the Archdiocese of Detroit years ago. As a result of the need to focus more here, and expand our ministry, the AOD emboldened and formalized the Disabilities Ministry Leadership Council with new members and a fortified charter. Subsequently, After a few years working with Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan, we re-engaged direcly with the AOD under the guidance of Archbishop Vigneron.
Going forward, we aspire to expand inclusion of people with disabilities across the Archdiocese and in all aspects of Parish life.
